Veneers are a popular cosmetic dentistry treatment that is commonly used to repair broken or chipped teeth. Veneers can also be used to change the shape, size and colour of any problem, damaged or discoloured teeth as well as provide improved structure for your mouth. Veneers offer a permanent and long-term solution to help you achieve your dream smile and the benefits they provide far outweigh the cost of any initial treatment.
If you have considered veneers to help fix a dental or cosmetic complaint, then you may be wondering what the treatment entails and how much it will cost in the short and long-term. Whether our patients are looking to fix broken or damaged teeth for health or cosmetic reasons, here at Revitalise Dental Centre we are often asked how much do veneers cost?
In this blog post, we will be exploring the cost of veneers and the different factors that you should consider when researching and embarking on cosmetic dentistry treatments.
Dental veneers have been around since the 1920’s and modern versions owe much to the ground-breaking work of Dr Michael Bunocore, Dr J.R. Calamia, and Dr R.J. Simonsen.
In the 1950’s Bunocore discovered dental etching, which is the process of making the surface of the natural tooth rough, thus allowing for a stronger bonding surface for a veneer. Taking this discovery and developing the technique further, Doctors J.R Calamia and R.J. Simonsen introduced the process of using dental etching combined with bonding resins in the 1960’s. This approach was designed to increase the lifespan of porcelain veneers before they needed to be replaced.
We know that understanding the stages of any dental work can be a big factor in deciding to move forward with treatment, which is why we take the time to explain what you can expect every step of the way during consultation sessions.
During your initial consultation, your personal Revitalise dental practitioner will also assess the current condition of your teeth, look at your overall health and decide if veneers are the best option for you. It may be that your ultimate aims and oral health are better suited to a different cosmetic dentistry procedure. We will help you explore all the available possibilities and discuss the benefits and costs of each treatment.
How much are veneers?
How much do veneers cost is a difficult question to answer in a definitive way. While the cost varies depending on the needs of the individual patient, here at Revitalise we usually say to our patients that they should allow a budget of between £800 – £1200 for their treatment.
Each patient comes to us with a differing set of circumstances as to why they are considering veneers over other cosmetic dentistry treatments.
Some will require only a single veneer on one tooth, while others may need multiple teeth covering and obviously, the number of veneers that you need will have an impact on the cost of your treatment.
You should never be put off from exploring what care is available to you because of concerns about cost. At Revitalise we believe that everyone should have access to exceptional dentistry, which is why we offer a range of finance options to suit different needs.
We understand that veneers can feel like an expensive treatment to fix a cosmetic complaint, but our affordable patient finance plans will allow you to achieve the smile of your dreams while spreading the cost into manageable payments.
We welcome you to contact our team and arrange an initial consultation during which we will discuss:
- The different stages of having veneers fitted.
- Any worries or concerns you may have about the process.
- The overall cost of treatment.
- How to look after and maintain your veneers at home.
At Revitalise we are fortunate to have an on-site laboratory and skilled technicians who create bespoke dental products for our clients. Our veneers are crafted by the lab team from ceramic which is a slightly more expensive material but offers far superior results with a look and feel that is indistinguishable from your natural teeth.
Factors to Consider
When answering the question of how much do veneers cost, there are several different factors you should consider and these factors can affect the price that you end up paying.
Choice of Dentist
Cosmetic Dentistry is not currently a recognised specialty within the UK and any registered dentist who has completed their basic 5 years of training could call themselves a cosmetic dentist. However, there is additional training which qualified dentists can undertake to enhance their knowledge and skills.
Restorative Dentistry is the act of replacing, rebuilding, or restructuring damaged teeth and giving patients their smile back. Treatments such as Crowns, Veneers, and Implants fall under Restorative Dentistry.
At the Revitalise Dental Centre we are very lucky to have world-renowned cosmetic dentist Dr Jason Smithson. Dr Smithson has achieved the highly respected diploma in Restorative Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
He continues to learn and develop new skills and techniques within the cosmetic dentistry field and regularly teaches others how to achieve natural-looking results by using minimally invasive procedures.
Whilst treatments may seem expensive, you can be assured that your dental care is in the capable and experienced hands of a world-renowned professional and the results you receive will be of the highest standard.
Prep Work
For a veneer to be fitted onto your tooth, you may need to undergo some initial preparatory work beforehand. Dental Veneers cover the front of your natural tooth and are cemented in place as a permanent alteration. Before the veneer can be fitted, your personal Revitalise dental practitioner will assess the overall quality and health of the tooth being treated.
This assessment will allow any underlying issue, such as gum disease or decay, to be identified and treated before the veneer is adhered to your tooth.
If these issues were left untreated and the veneer placed over the top, they could potentially develop into a larger or more complex issue. The initial assessment may indicate that other treatment is necessary to clean any decay or debris from your tooth.
The cost of work to prepare the tooth underneath and ensure it is as healthy as possible before the veneer is fitted is something to take into consideration before you start treatment. It will be an additional cost, on top of the veneers themselves, and will need to be factored into your budget.
Using the advanced dental technology we have at Revitalise, we can offer exceptional colour matching so that your veneer matches your natural teeth.
However, you do need to be aware that once created and cemented to your tooth, a veneer cannot be whitened. This means that if you wish to have an overall whiter and brighter smile, you will need to have your natural teeth whitened to your desired shade so that our dental technicians can match your veneer/s to your new natural tooth colour.
As before, the process of whitening your natural teeth will be an additional cost and would need to be undertaken in advance of your veneer treatment.
Laboratory Work
Another factor that can have an impact on the cost of veneers is the process of creating them. While it is possible to opt to use pre-made veneers, you could find that they are ill-fitting and may not match the rest of your teeth.
At Revitalise, our state-of-the-art, on-site laboratory provides a way for us to custom design all the dental prosthetics required by our patients. While bespoke products undoubtedly cost more than pre-made ones, they are the only way to achieve the best natural and most comfortable finish that perfectly matches your requirements.
Having a veneer fitted is a simple and routine procedure which can be completed in a few sessions. During the planning stage, there are several steps that will help you to design your dream smile.
- Our highly skilled cosmetic dentistry team will assess your smile, determining whether veneers are the right treatment option for you.
- You will be able to decide on the shape, size, and even the shade of your veneer.
- A very small amount of your tooth’s enamel, the same thickness as the final veneer, will be carefully removed.
- A digital impression will be created of your teeth, forming a mould for the dental technicians to use to create your bespoke veneer.
Once the mould is sent to our on-site laboratory, our technicians will use CAD/CAM design software to create a veneer perfectly tailor to you and your specific needs.
Using the highest quality materials, each of our veneers is made using premium ceramic compounds and carefully crafted to match your natural teeth, leaving you with a comfortable, beautiful and functional tooth.
We never offer ‘one size fits all’ treatments here at Revitalise. All the work we undertake is bespoke and tailored to the individual needs of each individual patient.
The Complexity of the Work
Because the process of fitting a veneer requires a small section of tooth enamel to be removed from your tooth, veneers as a cosmetic dentistry solution cannot be reversed and should be considered a permanent treatment.
They do, however, have a lifespan and will need replacing at some point in the future. With the right care and maintenance, veneers can last up to 15 years or longer and our team will work with you to make sure your oral hygiene regime works to maintain your veneers, allowing them to last as long as possible.
The cost of replacing your veneers is not included in the initial price of having them fitted. When the time comes for you to have them replaced you will need to pay for the treatment again.
The number of veneers that you require will impact the final cost of treatment. If you only require one veneer, then this will cost you less than if you required several. If multiple veneers are required, your dentist may discuss other treatment options that may be better suited to your needs and lifestyle.
Some patients may be looking at multiple veneers to create an even smile. With the cutting-edge technology, we use at Revitalise, we can create a single veneer to match the rest of your natural teeth. So even with a single veneer, you will be left with a brighter, more natural-looking smile.
Cheaper Alternatives
Veneers may seem to be an expensive treatment option in the UK, with some other countries offering much lower prices for what looks like the same amount of dental work.
There are many reasons why dental treatments can appear to be cheaper outside of the UK. The cost of living as well as materials and equipment can be lower leading to a reduced treatment change and the exchange rate can also affect the prices with any work being priced in the local currency.
It is worth remembering that all countries have different sets of standards, practices and qualifications required for dentists. All dentists who wish to practice in the UK must be registered with the General Dental Council. This governing body regulates the standards that dentists must achieve and maintain in order to practice well and safely – ultimately protecting and ensuring the care of patients.
If you consider travelling abroad for any dental treatment you may not be able to guarantee the quality of your treatment or the training of the dentist you visit. Here at Revitalise, we take the time to get to know each patient. We work with you to discover what you would like to achieve from the treatment you receive and we always strive to help every patient feel happy and confident with their smile.
When enquiring about dental treatments you should always let your dentist know if you have any allergies or underlying health issues. This will allow your dentist to plan and provide solutions to help you achieve your dream smile while taking into consideration your individual health needs.
All our patients will receive a treatment plan that is structured to suit them and tailored to their needs. All the work we undertake and every dental prosthesis made by our lab team is delivered to the highest possible standards.
