Orthodontics is an extremely common treatment option used to straighten, move or realign a person’s teeth. It is a great solution for anyone wanting to improve the appearance of their smile using minimally invasive techniques.

In the past, orthodontic treatment was commonly associated with younger patients. However, due to advancements in the dental industry, more and more adults are turning to the treatment as a solution to fixing misaligned teeth.

Here at Revitalise Dental Centre, we can transform your smile within 6 months with our bespoke teeth straightening treatment. We are an official provider of Six Month Smiles® which allows us to carry out short term orthodontic treatment using state of the art technology and methods.

Unlike traditional orthodontic treatment which aims to alter the person’s back teeth alignment, short term orthodontics (STO) aims to straighten the front teeth. To fix a patient’s cosmetic complaint.

  • Use clear, discreet braces. No need for embarrassing metal teeth
  • Will ensure a healthy amount of enamel is preserved to keep the teeth healthy

Further Information

What is Six Month Smiles® orthodontic treatment?

Developed in the USA, “Six Month Smiles® is a present-day form of orthodontic treatment with a contemporary twist. Using similar techniques found in traditional orthodontic treatment, STO greatly reduces the treatment length and removes the need for wearing a metal fixed braces for 2-3 years, often referred to as ‘train tracks’.

Many people, particularly adults, are put off by the idea of wearing a conventional metal brace or aligner. Our bespoke short term orthodontic treatment offers a discreet and cosmetic brace system which makes use of tooth-coloured wires and clear brackets.

Why does Six Month Smiles® work faster than traditional orthodontics?

It might be hard to believe that a treatment that usually takes two to three years can be reduced so significantly. The reason these braces work so fast is that the aim is to straighten the front teeth, the ones visible when you smile and talk. As opposed to correcting problems with the bite of the teeth.

Traditional orthodontics can be split into two phases, using Six Month Smiles® we essentially only focus on the first one. The first phase is to de-rotate, level and align the teeth that might be out of position. The second phase deals with specific tooth relationships, particularly the back ones, adjusting them to ensure they match up with current standards of orthodontics.

Although the length of treatment is greatly reduced compared to orthodontic treatment, STO still uses a similar process. Braces are used to gently push and move the teeth, helping them become more aligned to their natural position.

What to expect throughout your orthodontic treatment

After your consultation and you have decided you would like to proceed with treatment, we will book you in for an appointment with our highly experienced orthodontic dental team. From here we will take a digital 3D scan of your teeth along with photos displaying the current situation of your teeth. These will then be sent to the orthodontic team at Six Month Smiles, whom we will work closely with to create your bespoke plan.

Once your treatment plan has been finalised, we will meet with you again to answer any further questions or concerns you may have. We will also look at an animation created by the team at Six Month Smiles which shows how your teeth will move throughout your treatment.

Once we have placed your bespoke brace, over the next 6 months your teeth will gently be pushed into their correct position. Correcting crowded, spaced and overlapping teeth, as well as ones that are misaligned.

Just like you would with traditional orthodontic treatment, you will come in every four weeks to have your brace adjusted. After around 6 months when your brace is ready to be removed, you will be required to wear a retainer for a short time. This is to maintain the new, straight position of your teeth.

Short term orthodontic treatment for those with crowded teeth

You might have been told in the past that your teeth are too crowded for orthodontic treatment. If this is the case it is possible to file the teeth down to provide them with more space, whilst reducing the pressure caused by the overlapping.

Although we prefer to avoid filing the teeth down, it is a perfectly safe procedure which will not affect the overall health or function of the teeth. The process we use is known as interproximal reduction and consists of removing a very thin layer of the enamel, the outer surface of the tooth. This is achieved by passing a coarse strip through the teeth, allowing them to move.

Your health and safety is a top priority, that’s why before we begin any treatment you will require a full dental health check. Finance And Cost Options

Dental treatment can be expensive in the short term but in the long run, the benefits outweigh the cost. And at Revitalise we believe everyone should have a smile they are confident showing off. A member of our team will be more than happy to discuss your options further at your consultation.

What are the benefits of short term orthodontics?

Besides having a smile that you’re happy and confident with, there are multiple reasons why you might choose short term orthodontics over another dental treatment option.

Improved oral hygiene – Crooked and crowded teeth are harder to clean, increasing the chances of tooth decay and gum disease. This is because its harder to brush and floss gaps that shouldn’t be there. Straight teeth are much easier to clean, reducing oral health complications later in life.

Fast – Tooth misalignments can be corrected within six months, sometimes less. What would have originally taking multiple years to achieve is done in less than half the time with short term orthodontics.

Affordable – We have a range of payment plans available to best suit your lifestyle and needs. We aim to give you the beautiful smile you deserve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does short term orthodontics really only take 6 months to complete?

6 months is the average completion time for our short term orthodontic treatment. However, there are times where this might be completed quicker or take a little longer. You can expect treatment to range between 4-9 months.

Do short term orthodontics hurt?

No, you shouldn’t experience any pain when receiving treatment. Due to the process being much quicker than traditional orthodontist, a concern is that it must hurt due to pressure on the teeth. However, this is not true. The wires that we use at Revitalise are very light, no heavy forces are used.

You might experience some mild discomfort during the fitting appointment and a few days after the brace has been placed. Since your teeth are being pushed into their correct position, it’s very common to feel some mild discomfort.

Will I need to have my teeth filed?

We try to avoid filing healthy teeth whenever possible. However, if your teeth are crowded then we will need to remove a small amount of the enamel to allow the teeth to move. The amount we remove is extremely small, usually, around 0.1mm. This is completely safe and will not affect the normal functioning of the teeth.

Will short term orthodontics damage my teeth?

There are no risks of root damage or other issues that might occur that differ from traditional orthodontics. The forces from the brace associated with short term orthodontics are lighter than those you would find with traditional ones.

Can anyone have short term orthodontics?

At Revitalise we offer short term orthodontic treatment to patients 18 and older. Providing your oral and general health are in good standing, there is no reason as to why you wouldn’t be able to have treatment.

You will require a full dental health check before we can begin any treatment. Our priority is to ensure your gums and teeth are healthy to ensure a safe and successful treatment. This will take place during your consultation.

Will I have a mouth full metal?

No. We understand that having any sort of brace or retainer might be embarrassing, particularly when you are an adult. Through short term orthodontics, Revitalise can offer discreet and clear braces. The wires we use will be tooth coloured and the brackets will be clear, meaning it will be hard to notice them from close up and a distance.

Will I be required to wear a retainer?

Yes, any orthodontic treatment will require you to wear a retainer after your brace has been removed. This is important to maintain the new, straight positioning of your teeth.

How much will short term orthodontics cost?

The price will vary with each clinical situation but treatment will start at around £3,500. Here at Revitalise, we have a range of patient finance options to help you spread the cost of your treatment.

When might I need short-term orthodontic treatment?

For anyone aged 18 or over, concerned with the way their teeth look orthodontic treatment can be a great solution.

Teeth concerns that might be suitable for this type of treatment usually include:

  • Teeth that have spaces between them
  • Teeth that stick out
  • Teeth that are pushed back
  • Crooked or crowded teeth that are not aesthetic
  • Crooked or crowded teeth that are hard to clean

Are short term orthodontic braces less comfortable than traditional braces?

No, they are more comfortable due to lighter a lower force used, meaning the teeth can move easier. A common misconception with short term orthodontics is that more pressure is applied to get the job done quicker. Using standard orthodontic mechanics, short term treatments only focus on the appearance of your teeth rather than your bite.

What our Clients say

“The minute I met Martin, I just knew he was so calm and relaxing. So then we had a discussion and Martin said what he could do and it had to be what our pocket could afford as well and we went ahead with it. The experience I had at this dentist was unbelievable, it was a journey I loved every minute of.”

Client: Dee
Treatment: Dental Implants

“There’s always smiling, handshakes, hugs and plenty of tea and coffee. They looked after my husband who was there for the day. They do the sedation and Hayley looked after me. Obviously I was unaware of exactly what they were doing, but they always make you feel so comfortable. Although you’re nervous, I don’t think I could’ve gone and got the same treatment anywhere else.”
