Frequently Asked Questions

Does short term orthodontics really only take 6 months to complete?

The average completion time for short term orthodontic treatment is 6 months. Treatment can be completed quicker or sometimes take a little longer. The length of treatment will vary from patient to patient. You can expect treatment to range between 4-9 months.

Do short term orthodontics hurt?

No, you will not experience any pain throughout your treatment. Our braces make use of wires which are very light resulting in no heavy force or pressure being used to move the teeth.

It’s common to experience some mild discomfort during the fitting appointment and a few days after the brace has been placed.

Will I need to have my teeth filed?

We will only file a patient’s teeth when it is necessary to ensure treatment is successful. When the teeth are overcrowded, removing a very thin layer of the tooth’s enamel might be required. This is completely safe and will not affect the normal functioning of the teeth. You might have been turned down for orthodontics in Plymouth for this reason, if so book if for a consultation with us so we can find a solution that works for you.

Will short term orthodontics damage my teeth?

There are no risks of root damage or other issues that might occur that differ from traditional orthodontics. Because we use lighter braces than those associated with traditional, there is no increased risk of damage to your teeth.

Can anyone have short term orthodontics?

At Revitalise we only offer STO to patients over the age of 18. Your oral and general health must be in good standing to proceed with treatment.

For this reason, we will require a full dental health check to ensure your mouth, gums and teeth are healthy. For patients travelling from Plymouth for orthodontic treatment, you can request from your current or previous dentist access to your dental records. This allows us to gain a full look at your dental health records.

Will I have a mouth full metal?

No. We understand that having a metal brace, sometimes referred to as ‘train tracks’, can be embarrassing. If you are looking for a dentist providing discreet orthodontics in Plymouth we can help. The brace we will use is clear and discreet. The wires are tooth coloured and the brackets are clear, even from close up they are hard to notice.

Will I be required to wear a retainer?

Yes, it’s important during the early stages of your brace being removed a retainer is worn to maintain the new, straight positioning of the teeth. This is common among all orthodontic treatment and will only be short term.

How much will short term orthodontics cost?

Most treatments that fix cosmetic concerns are bespoke, meaning the price will vary with each clinical situation. You can expect treatment to start around £3,500.

When might I need short-term orthodontic treatment?

For anyone aged 18 or over, concerned with the way their teeth look orthodontic treatment can be a great solution.

Teeth concerns that might be suitable for this type of treatment usually include:

  • Teeth that have spaces between them
  • Teeth that stick out
  • Teeth that are pushed back
  • Crooked or crowded teeth that are not aesthetic
  • Crooked or crowded teeth that are hard to clean

Are short term orthodontic braces less comfortable than traditional braces?

No, they are often said to be more comfortable due to the pressure of the brace not being as forceful. A common misconception with short term orthodontics is that more pressure is applied to get the job done quicker.

What our Clients say

Marion visited Revitalise to reclaim her smile with a complete implant treatment. In this video, she explains how the staff at the practice put her at ease and why she recommends Revitalise to everyone she meets.

Client: Marion
Treatment: Complete mouth secured with implants

“The minute I met Martin, I just knew he was so calm and relaxing. So then we had a discussion and Martin said what he could do and it had to be what our pocket could afford as well and we went ahead with it. The experience I had at this dentist was unbelievable, it was a journey I loved every minute of.”

Client: Dee
Treatment: Dental Implants

“There’s always smiling, handshakes, hugs and plenty of tea and coffee. They looked after my husband who was there for the day. They do the sedation and Hayley looked after me. Obviously I was unaware of exactly what they were doing, but they always make you feel so comfortable. Although you’re nervous, I don’t think I could’ve gone and got the same treatment anywhere else.”
