Sedation Options

Sedation

Sedation is a safe method to relax and calm patients during dental procedures, reducing anxiety and discomfort.

Sedation in dentistry is a technique used to help patients feel calm and relaxed during dental procedures. It reduces anxiety, discomfort, and fear, making treatment easier and more comfortable. Sedation can range from mild relaxation with oral medication to deeper levels using intravenous (IV) sedation. The type of sedation is chosen based on the patient’s needs, procedure complexity, and medical history. It allows dentists to perform procedures efficiently while ensuring patient safety. Recovery is generally quick, and patients can undergo treatment without stress or pain.

Process

  • Consultation & Assessment – Review medical history, anxiety levels, and procedure requirements to choose the right sedation type.
  • Pre-Sedation Preparation – Instructions may include fasting or avoiding certain medications before the appointment.
  • Administration of Sedation – Sedation is given orally, intravenously (IV), or through inhalation (e.g., nitrous oxide) depending on the level needed.
  • Monitoring During Procedure – Vital signs like heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels are closely monitored throughout the treatment.
  • Dental Treatment – The dentist performs the procedure while the patient remains relaxed or semi-conscious.
  • Recovery & Observation – Patients are monitored until sedation effects wear off and they are safe to leave.
  • Post-Sedation Care – Instructions include rest, avoiding driving, and following any specific dental aftercare guidelines
