For nervous patients

You’re not alone.

Many patients feel nervous about dental visits, and we understand that anxiety can come from a wide range of experiences and concerns. Whatever the reason, we take your feelings seriously and tailor your care to help you feel safe, understood, and in control.

Why you might feel anxious

There’s no single reason — and no wrong reason.

For some, it may be due to a previous negative or traumatic dental experience. Others may worry about pain, feel self-conscious about their oral health, or find the sounds and sensations of treatment overwhelming. Each one is valid.

A previous negative or traumatic dental experience
Worry about pain or discomfort
Feeling self-conscious about oral health
Sensitivity to sounds, smells or sensations
General anxiety or heightened health concerns
Worry about cost or unexpected treatment

Our approach

How we support nervous patients.

From the moment you arrive, everything we do is designed to help you feel calm and comfortable — a warm welcome, a gentle introduction to the practice, and as much time as you need to settle in.

A warm, personal welcome

Our waiting area is designed to feel calm and relaxing. We’re always happy to offer a hot drink and a friendly conversation to help you feel at ease before we begin.

Listening with empathy

Compassion is at the heart of our approach. We listen carefully to your concerns without making assumptions, so you feel heard and respected throughout your visit.

Clear, jargon-free explanations

We use simple language to explain what’s happening and welcome questions at any stage. We check in often during treatment, so nothing happens before you’re ready.

Longer appointments, at your pace

We offer longer appointment times and flexible treatment planning, so you can build confidence gradually and move forward when it feels right.

Follow-up care after your visit

We can offer follow-up check-ins, including next-day contact where needed, so you feel reassured and supported once you’ve left the chair.

A small but thoughtful detail

The nervous patient comfort box.

Little things make a real difference. Whenever you need it, our comfort box is there — a quiet way to help you feel more in control during your visit.

Soft blanket

Cosy and grounding — especially helpful if cool rooms or clinical settings put you on edge.

Fidget toys

Something for your hands — an easy way to release tension and stay present during treatment.

Calming scents

Subtle aromas to soften the clinical environment and help quiet a busy mind.

Headphones

Listen to your own music or a guided breathing track — whatever helps you stay in your own world.

If you’re still feeling anxious

Sedation options, for when extra support is the right answer.

For some patients, a little more help makes all the difference. We offer safe, effective sedation designed to help you feel deeply relaxed — suitable for everything from a single appointment to longer, more complex treatment.

Option 01

Oral sedation

A gentle option to take the edge off anxiety before and during your visit. You stay awake and responsive, just noticeably calmer.

Option 02

IV sedation

A deeper level of relaxation, especially helpful for longer or more complex procedures. Many patients remember very little of the appointment afterwards.

Learn more on our sedation options page, or get in touch and we’ll send you our sedation information leaflet.

You’re in safe hands

Whenever you’re ready — we’re here.

Whether it has been a few months or many years since your last visit, we’ll support you without judgment and help you take that first step forward.
