Revitalise Dental Centre

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a revolutionary method of straightening and correcting your smile without the need for uncomfortable braces, metal wires or brackets. Crafted from a patented blend of medical-grade thermoplastic material called SmartTrack, Invisalign aligners are transparent trays that gradually straighten your teeth without the pain and discomfort of other treatments.

Invisalign aligners have improved dentist control over tooth movement and can straighten your teeth with more predictability and speed.

Invisalign aligners are shaped to the contours of your mouth

No more uncomfortable metal brackets and tight, noticeable wires like traditional braces. Invisalign is clear and unnoticeable, so you will have more confidence when you are out and about.

Invisalign aligners can be removed

Unlike traditional braces Invisalign aligners can also be removed while you eat, so they offer a less restrictive way of straightening your teeth by fitting around your lifestyle and offering more flexibility in your routine.

At Revitalise Dental Centre we see several patients with misaligned teeth benefit from Invisalign treatment in not only their oral health but their confidence and day-to-day lives.

The benefits of Invisalign

While traditional fixed braces have dominated the science of orthodontics for years, fixed metal braces can be prohibitive and uncomfortable, especially when it comes to adult orthodontic work which requires flexibility and discretion.

Invisalign is discreet

Invisalign aligners are transparent and can be easily removed to eat and brush your teeth.

Invisalign can improve your long-term oral health

Straightening your teeth means your oral health will be easier to maintain in the long-term. By avoiding a build-up of plaque, health issues such as gum disease can be more readily avoided.

What is SmartTrack?

Invisalign patent SmartTrack technology has been developed over the past 8 years and is the product of decades of research into material science and biomechanics. By using Invisalign materials, the result of years of hard work, research and development by top scientists, there is a significantly smaller chance of your braces breaking or snapping which can disrupt treatment.

Invisalign creates an invisible aligner that provides maximum discretion and comfort for the duration of your treatment. While conventional brackets and fixtures used in traditional orthodontics can break and irritate your mouth and gums, Invisalign uses clear aligners which are created for you, aligning to the contours of your mouth to give you ultimate comfort.

Wearing the aligners for 22-24 hours per day will yield the best results. However, your aligners can be removed. This means you can brush your teeth and avoid certain foods getting stuck between your teeth by removing your aligners before you eat.

What is the Invisalign process?

Before you receive your Invisalign aligners, your Revitalise practitioner will assess your suitability for the treatment and ensure your overall oral health is good enough to proceed. Your Revitalise practitioner will explain the process and answer any questions you may have.

Your oral health needs to be at optimum levels before you start your Invisalign treatment. You will receive a complementary one hour thorough examination with Dr Alkisti Vousvouni who will perform a full mouth check, X-rays if required, a mouth, head and neck cancer check, gum health assessment and decay assessment. Your gums, teeth and fillings need to be healthy and sound before you embark on any cosmetic or orthodontic procedures.

From there your dentist will map out a full treatment plan by studying and pinpointing the exact movements of your teeth. By moulding the aligners to your mouth, we can ensure the correct amount of pressure is applied to your teeth at the correct time with no discomfort to the patient. For the best results, you will be expected to wear your aligners for 22-24 hours per day.

Your aligners will need to be replaced every few weeks depending on the strategy agreed upon with your practitioner. The new aligners will slowly adjust your teeth to the desired position, gently nudging your teeth with a comfortable amount of pressure. Your aligners are uniquely customised to fit the contours of your mouth, so you might not even be aware your Invisalign treatment is working.

Once your Invisalign treatment is finished you will be advised to wear a retainer. Regardless of what treatment you choose it will be necessary to wear a retainer to maintain the new alignment of your teeth.

How often will I have to wear my Invisalign aligners?

With Invisalign, the length of the treatment is dependent on your needs and overall oral health.   For some patients with minor alignment issues, treatment can take as little as three months. You will need to wear your aligners for 22-24 hours a day for the full duration of your treatment. If you feel you might not be wearing your retainer for long enough, speak to your Revitalise practitioner. Our team will be able to advise you on getting your treatment plan back on track.

Can I have Invisalign if I have veneers or dental implants?

If you are considering Invisalign treatment but already have veneers, talk to your Revitalise practitioner. Cases are treated on an individual basis, so it is important to discuss your goals and overall oral health with your practitioner. If Invisalign is not the best solution for your misaligned teeth, our team will be able to suggest other treatments that might work for you such as Six Month Smiles ®.

If you already have dental implants, your Revitalise practitioner may suggest other more suitable treatments to straighten your teeth. If you are thinking about getting dental implants but straightening your teeth is also at the forefront of your treatment plan, your dentist may recommend you complete your Invisalign treatment first before receiving your implants. By straightening your teeth first, you will receive the best possible outcome for your dental implants.

Before going ahead with any treatment, your Revitalise practitioner will map out a treatment plan to ensure the best possible end to your journey.

What if Invisalign is not suitable for me?

We have a variety of different treatment plans to help every patient. If Invisalign is not for you, many patients find Six Month Smiles ® is the perfect solution to misaligned teeth. While Invisalign is a renowned treatment for flexibility and discretion, Six Month Smiles ® is a transparent fixed alignment treatment which can remedy wonky teeth in just six months. Like Invisalign, Six Month Smiles ® is customised to align to the contours of your mouth for ultimate comfort.

Invisalign aligners can be removed at any point during the day while Six Month Smiles ® is permanently fixed.

Six Month Smiles ® focuses on straightening your front, most visible teeth, while Invisalign corrects teeth misalignment throughout your whole mouth.

Can I still eat my favourite food?

With Invisalign your lifestyle will not be hindered in any shape or form. Your Invisalign aligners can be removed at any point giving you the freedom and flexibility to still live life to the full. If you are regularly brushing your teeth and maintaining a consistent oral health routine, as well as ensuring you are wearing your aligners for at least 22-24 hours per day, there is no reason to cut any food or drink from your diet.

How long will my Invisalign treatment take?

Invisalign treatment can take anywhere between 6 -12 months depending on your oral health and the complex nature of treatment needed. Revitalise practitioners can assess your overall oral health and create an intensive treatment plan. Once you have spoken with your dentist you should have a better indication of how long the treatment will take. Patience and a consistent routine will have you smiling with confidence in no time.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Invisalign?

Invisalign has helped over 9 million people worldwide achieve their dream smiles, but the treatment’s success has resulted in a rise in copycat treatments. Without custom-fit aligners created specifically with the patient’s needs in mind, these copycat procedures can lead to bleeding gums and prolonged dental implications that can threaten your long-term oral health. Invisalign is the result of decades of scientific research and development and is trusted worldwide. The Invisalign retainers are laser cut to fit just at the junction on your gums to your teeth so your gums will not be affected by the aligner.

Will I have to wear my retainer forever?

As with any alignment treatment you may need to wear a retainer to maintain your new smile. Once you have completed your treatment, your Revitalise practitioner will be able to advise you whether you will need a retainer long-term.

Who will perform my Invisalign treatment?

Dr Alkisti Vousvouni has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in orthodontics and is trained in Invisalign practices. She will assess your overall oral health to ensure you are a suitable candidate for Invisalign and will also discuss the possibility of any further treatment to maintain your smile after treatment, such as a retainer or further cosmetic treatments.

Once your Invisalign treatment is complete, many of our patients choose to enhance their smile even further with veneers, implants and cosmetic bonding. Alkisti Vousvouni and our other in-house practitioner and Jason Smithson will be able to discuss these treatments with you.

Will I need additional treatments?

When you choose Revitalise for your Invisalign treatment, you will receive a complimentary tooth whitening treatment. Straighter teeth can be enhanced further with cosmetic bonding to fill gaps and create square edges. Many of our patients choose to use their newly straightened teeth as a base to build a healthy set of pearly veneers. At Revitalise your veneers and crowns are built at our very own state-of-the-art on-site laboratory Dental Precision, so you can relax while our team gets to work.

What other treatment can I receive once my teeth have been straightened?

Once Invisalign treatment is complete, many patients choose to further enhance their smile with veneers, dental implants, and cosmetic bonding. If you are looking at extended treatment, talk to your Revitalise practitioner.

Veneers

Quick and comfortable, veneers are the perfect solution to stained, chipped or crooked teeth. Whether you are looking to fill a large gap in your smile or treating a single badly stained tooth, our custom-made porcelain veneers can transform your smile. Revitalise has a dedicated laboratory with state-of-the-art facilities that enable our technicians to create your veneers and other prostheses on-site, so you can achieve more functionality and build your confidence in just 2 to 4 weeks.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a stable, long-term solution most used to replace a missing or broken tooth. A straightforward and routine treatment, dental implants create a natural look and feel which enable patients to go about their lives with more self-confidence. The implant replicates the look and feel of a natural tooth, with a ceramic crown and titanium “root”. There are three different types of dental implant; a single tooth implant, an implant supported bridge, and a full arch.

Single tooth implant

If you just have one tooth missing, it can be replaced with a single implant. In terms of your oral health, this treatment restores functionality and improves the health of neighbouring teeth and your jawbone.

Implant supported bridge

An implant supported bridge fills multiple gaps in your mouth.

Full arch

In the case of a full arch, all remaining teeth will be removed.  Although most adults have 32 implants, you will not need 32 implants surgically placed. Your lower jaw will need a minimum of two implants, while your upper jaw will require a minimum of four as the bone is often softer in your upper jaw.

Cosmetic Bonding

Cosmetic bonding also known as composite bonding or direct resin bonding, is the application of a dental composite resin to your teeth. A special form of tooth coloured plastic, cosmetic bonding can repair decayed, damaged, or discoloured teeth, as well as improve the overall shape. The treatment is not invasive and requires just one appointment. At Revitalise our very own Dr Jason Smithson is known globally for his expertise in the technique of cosmetic bonding, as he pioneered the technique of cosmetic bonding in Great Britain over 20 years ago and has since travelled all over the world educating other dental practitioners.
